SWR introduces morale-booster awards

Inspired by best management practices, the Mysore division of South Western Railway has introduced a new scheme to keep the morale and enthusiasm of railway employees high, thereby increasing productivity.
The scheme was introduced by Divisional Railway Manager Vinod Kumar, under which a ‘Person of the Month' award has been instituted in four categories having a bearing on the operations of the Railways.
The four categories are safety, innovation, sincerity and economy.
One person drawn from any of the various branches of the Railways would be identified for the award in each category in recognition of their contribution or for their exemplary work, according to Anup Dayanand Sadhu, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager.
The first of the award functions was held on Monday and the awards were given away by R.K. Gupta, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Mysore division.
The employees who received the award were J. Hanumantha Rao, loco pilot (Safety); Anasuya Guru, junior engineer, Signal and Telecommunication Department (Sincerity); Arifulla Khan, Electrical Department (Economy), and Alfred Cotter, Mechanical Department (Innovation).
In addition, eight loco pilots and four key men were also awarded for their alertness. Senior Railway officials and staff members attended the function.
The awards included a purse of Rs. 1,000 each, and their names will be published in the monthly newsletter of the Railways.
Besides, photographs of the winners will be on display on the notice board at the Mysore station, according to Mr. Sadhu.
